Hyderabad: Legislative Council Chairman Gutha Sukhender Reddy has urged the Telangana government to prioritise health and education improvement by increasing funding and upgrading public institutions.
Speaking to reporters in Nalgonda on Thursday, Reddy said the government spends nearly ₹1,200 crore each year on healthcare. Despite this, most people still choose private hospitals. He demanded a fresh review of the Aarogyasri and Chief Minister’s Relief Fund (CMRF) schemes.
He explained that Aarogyasri was launched to help low-income patients get treatment in private hospitals, as government facilities were inadequate at the time. Now, construction of hospitals is underway in all 32 districts, with four more planned in Hyderabad. Reddy said the government must shift its focus accordingly.
“These hospitals should be fully equipped. Doctors working there should receive incentives, and medical services must improve,” Reddy said.
He asked the government to raise district hospitals to the level of NIMS in Hyderabad. Once public hospitals are upgraded, Aarogyasri and CMRF funds should support them instead of private facilities.
On education, Reddy called for the improvement of government schools, colleges, and training institutes. He urged staff in health and education departments to carry out their duties responsibly.
