Hyderabad: AICC secretary and former Rajya Sabha MP V. Hanumantha Rao has urged Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy to take up the long-pending demand for an Indian Institute of Management (IIM) in the state with the central government.
In a letter sent to the chief minister, Rao praised recent state initiatives like Sports City, Green City Industrial Park, Young India Police School, and Young India Skill University, calling them building blocks for a “rising Telangana.”
However, he pointed out that 21 states across India including Gujarat, Karnataka, Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, and even Meghalaya already host IIMs, while Telangana still lacks the prestigious institution. He noted that during the undivided Andhra Pradesh era, despite strong demand, the IIM was awarded to Visakhapatnam.
Rao said Telangana now has the infrastructure and ecosystem needed to host an IIM and urged the CM to raise the matter during his upcoming Delhi visit. He stressed the need to provide Telangana’s youth access to world-class management education.
