HYDERABAD, February 9: Former Minister Harish Rao has called for the appointment of a Deputy Chief Minister from the Backward Classes (BCs) in Telangana. Speaking at an event in Siddipet on Sunday, he criticised the Congress party for not fulfilling its promises to the BC community.
Rao highlighted that during K. Chandrashekar Rao’s (KCR) tenure, the significance of the Yadav community was acknowledged in the Assembly, and multiple MLA seats were allocated to them. In contrast, he pointed out that the Congress did not offer even a single ministerial position to the community.
He demanded the implementation of the Kamareddy Declaration, which was purportedly promised to the BCs by the Congress. Rao accused the party of conducting a fraudulent caste census that allegedly reduced the reported numbers of the BC population. He also called for a 42% reservation for BCs in local body elections and insisted that elections should only be held after ensuring this quota.
Furthermore, Rao criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, alleging that he has failed to deliver justice to any particular community and has mortgaged Telangana’s honour to Delhi. He also accused ministers of demanding a 30% commission for land-related work, suggesting that the state has become corrupt under the current leadership.
These statements underscore ongoing political tensions in Telangana, with leaders advocating for greater representation and accountability within the state’s governance.
