HYDERABAD: Former Telangana minister and BRS leader T. Harish Rao has stated that alcohol consumption in the state significantly declined under the governance of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR). Speaking at a public event on Tuesday, Harish Rao claimed that the BRS government implemented strict measures to control excessive liquor consumption, leading to a reduction in alcohol sales and improved public health.
He criticised the current Congress-led state government, alleging that its policies are reversing the progress made in this regard. Harish Rao further argued that the previous administration prioritised public welfare, while the present leadership is allowing unchecked liquor sales, which could negatively impact society.
The remarks come amidst an ongoing political debate over liquor policy in Telangana. The Congress government has not yet responded to Harish Rao’s claims. Political analysts believe that liquor regulation could become a key issue in the state’s political discourse.
