Hyderabad: Former minister Harish Rao has opposed the Congress government’s decision to change the RRR alignment. He warned that the move would harm poor and marginalised farmers in Kondapur mandal of Sangareddy constituency.
On Sunday, farmers from the affected villages met Harish Rao. They urged him to push for the original alignment of the Regional Ring Road (Triple R) project. The farmers said the new alignment was arbitrary and placed their lands at risk.
Rao assured them of his full support. He said he would press the government to retain the old alignment. “No farmer should lose land for this project,” he said.
‘Revanth Reddy playing with lives of farmers’
Harish Rao criticised Chief Minister Revanth Reddy for allegedly shifting the alignment to benefit personal land interests. He claimed the new route cuts through fertile green fields in SC, ST, and BC-dominated villages like Girimapur, Tummarapalli, Aliabad, Marepalli, Rampurthanda, Gotilagutta Thanda, Machepalli Thanda, Shivanna Gudem, and Gangaram.
According to Rao, the BRS government had maintained a 40-km buffer between the Outer Ring Road (ORR) and the proposed Triple R. He said the Congress government reduced this to just 23 km, putting poor farmers at a greater disadvantage.
He accused the government of forcing farmers to bear the cost of poor planning. Rao also warned that protests would escalate if the alignment was not corrected.
