HYDERABAD: After the Business Advisory Committee (BAC) meeting, Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) senior leader and former minister T. Harish Rao addressed the media, highlighting key demands raised by the opposition party regarding the ongoing Assembly sessions.
Demand for extended assembly sessions
Harish Rao stated that the BRS had demanded a minimum of 20 days for Assembly discussions. He criticized the premature leaking of Assembly business details, comparing it to the recent exam paper leaks.
Speaker’s alleged bias and time allocation
Rao accused Chief Minister Revanth Reddy of bulldozing the Speaker’s decisions by preventing opposition members from speaking. He insisted that time allocation in the Assembly should be based on the party’s strength, and Speaker Gaddam Prasad Kumar agreed to this request.
Discussions on Farmers’ and Water Issues
The BRS urged discussions on:
– Farmer crises
– Drinking and irrigation water issues
– Neglect of key projects such as Sunkesula, Pedda Vagu breaches, Vattem Pump House submersion, and SLBC canal damage.
Harish Rao alleged that the government was deliberately ignoring the collapsed pillars of the Kaleshwaram Project and demanded immediate restoration.
Criticism of the government’s performance
The BRS questioned the state government’s failure in:
– Managing Krishna River water while Andhra Pradesh allegedly diverted Telangana’s share.
– Implementing six guarantees promised during the elections.
– Job creation and unemployment benefits, urging discussions on job calendars.
– Delay in bill payments to small contractors and ex-sarpanches.
Concerns Over Liquor Policies and LRS
Rao raised concerns about:
– Increasing bars, wine shops, and belt shops under the Congress government.
– Non-implementation of free LRS (Land Regularization Scheme) despite election promises.
Demand for Ministerial Accountability
Harish Rao called for:
– Ministers to come prepared for discussions in the Assembly.
– The Speaker’s intervention in securing development funds for constituencies.
– An open discussion on the alleged 20% commission on bill clearances in the Assembly.
The BRS strongly criticized the government’s handling of various key issues and demanded meaningful discussions during the budget session.
