Hyderabad: Senior BRS legislator T Harish Rao on Wednesday accused the Congress government of stifling dissent by imposing prohibitory orders in public libraries and universities across Telangana.
Calling the restrictions a cover-up for failing job promises, Rao said the move aims to silence frustration among unemployed youth. He demanded immediate release of a job calendar and notifications to fill two lakh government posts, as promised by the Congress during the election campaign.
Rao likened the curbs to the Emergency era and accused the ruling party of abandoning democratic values. He said the same Congress leaders who once mobilised youth in libraries for political support, including Rahul Gandhi, are now restricting access to those spaces.
“Now that you are in power, you are imposing prohibitory orders to restrict access to libraries. How can you defend this?” Rao asked.
He said only 12,000 posts have been filled under the Congress administration, despite claims of addressing 60,000 vacancies. The job calendar, he said, has turned into a “jobless calendar.”
The former minister also accused the government of misleading youth over unemployment benefits and cracking down on student protests with unlawful cases.
