Hyderabad: BRS MLA Harish Rao on Friday lashed out at the Congress government’s plan to build the Pranahita–Chevella project at huge cost. He said the state wanted to spend ₹35,000 crore only for the Thammidihatti–Yellampalli stretch.
Rao noted that the Medigadda–Mallannasagar project had cost ₹84,000 crore in total. By contrast, Congress planned to spend almost half that amount for water to just 4.47 lakh acres.
Harish Rao slams Pranahita Chevella project cost and design
He explained that Kaleshwaram used 240 TMC of water to irrigate 37 lakh acres. Pranahita–Chevella, he said, would use only 80 TMC to irrigate far less land.
Rao argued that Congress engineers planned to spend one-third of the Kaleshwaram cost without irrigating even one-tenth of the land. He mocked the plan as “a great and unique thought” of the Congress.
Posting on social media, he said this wasteful design proved the government’s poor engineering skills. He asked whether this was the “real change” promised by Congress.
