HYDERABAD: BRS MLA Harish Rao has strongly criticised the Congress government for its alleged negligence in releasing scholarship funds, claiming that the delay has become a major burden on poor and middle-class students. He condemned the government’s inaction, especially in the case of students selected under the foreign education scheme, who are now struggling without financial support.
Harish Rao accused the Congress administration of ignoring the plight of students, stating that while these students suffer due to non-payment of funds, the government remains indifferent. He expressed anger over the delay in fund disbursement, which he said is affecting students’ education and future prospects.
Recalling an earlier Assembly session in December, Harish Rao pointed out that when the issue was raised, the government claimed it was unaware of students facing difficulties and assured that scholarship dues would be cleared by March. However, he alleged that three months have passed, yet not a single rupee has been paid.
Harish Rao further attacked the Revanth Reddy-led government, stating that while it is quick to clear bills for large contractors, it is neglecting the scholarship payments of poor students. He accused the Congress government of undermining the foreign education scheme, which was initially introduced by former CM KCR to support SC, ST, BC, minority, and economically weaker upper-caste students in pursuing higher education abroad.
He alleged that since the Congress government took office, not a single student has been selected under this scheme, and the application process has been stalled for over a year and a half. Many students, he said, have already taken loans to study abroad, while others, hoping to be selected under the scheme, have been waiting without any financial support.
Harish Rao demanded that the government wake up from its inaction and immediately release the pending scholarship funds. He also urged the government to restart the selection process for the foreign education scheme, ensuring that deserving students get the opportunity to study abroad without financial hurdles.
