Hyderabad: BRS senior leader and former minister T Harish Rao on Sunday hit out at the Congress government over the deteriorating conditions in Telangana’s Gurukul schools.
He blamed the government for failing to clear contractor payments and rental dues, resulting in disruption of basic facilities like food and uniforms for students.
Harish Rao demanded immediate payment of pending rents for private buildings housing the schools, as well as clearing outstanding bills.
He said that during the BRS government’s tenure, Gurukul institutions had emerged as a national model, but under the current Congress administration, conditions had worsened.
According to Harish Rao, supplies of eggs, meat, and bananas have stopped since January due to non-payment to contractors. Some contractors have warned of halting all supplies if their dues are not settled by July 1.
He claimed that over ₹450 crore in rental arrears had piled up for the past 13 months, and in certain places, owners had locked out school premises.
Students, he added, were still without uniforms, shoes, or bags, and many were forced to wear torn clothes.
Calling it a complete failure of the Revanth Reddy-led government, Harish Rao demanded urgent intervention to protect the future of poor and marginalised children studying in Gurukul schools.
