Harish Rao slams saffron shift in Telangana emblem

Hyderabad: Senior BRS leader T Harish Rao on Thursday launched a scathing attack on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy over what he called a “regressive” redesign of Telangana’s emblem and vision slogan.

Taking to X, the Siddipet MLA criticised the government’s decision to drop the tricolour in the ‘Telangana Rising’ logo in favour of a saffron-themed design. The shift, he argued, echoes the Centre’s ‘Viksit Bharat 2047’ campaign and signals a deeper political alignment.

“This isn’t progress — it’s regression,” Rao posted, accusing the Chief Minister of abandoning Telangana’s distinct identity. He also took aim at the updated slogan, now dubbed ‘Telangana Rising 2047’, calling it part of a pattern of inconsistency. “A new slogan every day, a new direction seasonally, and yet nothing gets done,” he wrote, dubbing the government’s approach “Tughlaq-style policy making.”

Rao didn’t mince words, questioning whether the design overhaul was the result of political pressure from Delhi. “Is this ‘Bade Bhai–Chote Bhai’ politics, driven by the ED case and the recent NITI Aayog meeting?” he asked, hinting at a possible behind-the-scenes compromise.

The remarks have sharpened the political divide in the state, with the BRS framing the changes as symbolic of Telangana’s autonomy being eroded under Congress rule.
