Hyderabad: Former Minister Harish Rao on Tuesday called on the state government to immediately release funds to all villages in Telangana for the regular maintenance of Gram Panchayats.
He alleged that the government’s negligence in releasing these funds had forced many panchayat secretaries to return the tractors meant for local maintenance, citing their inability to operate them without financial support.
Harish Rao reminded that under the leadership of former Chief Minister K. Chandrashekar Rao, the government had equipped 12,941 Gram Panchayats with tractors and allocated ₹3,330 crores at the rate of ₹275 crores every month. Additionally, ₹1,700 crores were distributed to municipalities across the state to support sanitation works.
He criticised the current administration for failing to prioritise local governance and urged the state to uphold its commitment to rural development.
