Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Wednesday directed Kaloji Narayana Rao University of Health Sciences to file a counter affidavit within three weeks in connection with the ongoing dispute over PG medical admissions.
A division bench led by Chief Justice Alok Aradhe and Justice Mohd. Abdul Nazeer heard a batch of petitions challenging the university’s rejection of admissions based on local status criteria.
The petitioners, represented by senior counsel Vidyasagar and advocate Sai Praseen, argued that they had completed their MBBS degrees from medical institutions within Telangana. However, they were still classified as non-local candidates and deemed ineligible for PG admissions for the academic year 2025–26, as per a notification issued on September 30.
Counsel submitted that denying them admission under the pretext of local status violates the Presidential Order of 1974. They urged the court to treat the petitioners as local candidates.
Appearing for the Health, Medical, and Family Welfare Department, Assistant Government Pleader Ramesh presented the department’s position. Standing counsel Sharath represented Kaloji Medical University.
The court instructed the university to submit its counter within three weeks. It also directed the petitioners to file their counter affidavit by November 11. The next hearing is scheduled for the same date.
