Hyderabad: The Telangana High Court on Friday reserved its judgment on Chief Minister A Revanth Reddy’s plea seeking dismissal of a 2016 case filed against him under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act.
Justice M Bhattacharya completed the hearing and announced that the verdict will be delivered later.
The case was registered at Gachibowli police station in connection with a land dispute involving Survey No. 127 in Gopanpally village, Ranga Reddy district. It was based on a complaint filed by N Padi Raju, president of the SC Mutual Aided Cooperative Housing Society.
According to the complaint, on Revanth Reddy’s instructions, his brother Kondal Reddy and others encroached on the society’s land and used a JCB to demolish structures built there. The complainant also alleged caste-based abuse during the incident.
Revanth Reddy was named as Accused No. 3 in the FIR.
The Chief Minister had approached the High Court in 2020, seeking to quash the case. In his appeal, he claimed the charges were politically motivated and lacked substantive evidence. He pointed out that during the trial, the public prosecutor examined eight witnesses, none of whom placed him at the scene.
