Hyderabad: Malkajgiri court has remanded Hyderabad Cricket Association (HCA) president Jaganmohan Rao and five others to 14 days’ judicial custody in connection with the SRH threat and forgery case. The accused were shifted to Chanchalguda jail following the court’s orders on Thursday.
Along with Jaganmohan Rao, those remanded include HCA treasurer Srinivas Rao, CEO Sunil Kumar, general secretary Rajender Yadav, his wife Kavitha, and Sri Chakra Cricket Club secretary. The lone absconding accused is HCA secretary Devaraj.
The CID had arrested the six on Wednesday night, presented them in court after medical examination on Thursday, and secured their remand. Kavitha, the only female accused, was sent to the women’s prison at Chanchalguda.
The case involves allegations that the accused threatened Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) officials over IPL ticket allocations and engaged in large-scale financial irregularities. The FIR also cites forgery, claiming Kavitha arranged a fake signature from Gowlipura Cricket Club president and former minister Krishna Yadav to aid Jaganmohan Rao’s HCA presidential election.
CID sources revealed that Kavitha played a key role in Jaganmohan Rao’s election. Following his appointment, complaints emerged of widespread fund misuse under his leadership, prompting Telangana Cricket Association president Guruvareddy to lodge a formal complaint.
CID’s probe has intensified amid findings of serious irregularities during IPL match ticket distribution. Investigators say custodial questioning has already uncovered several leads, and further revelations are likely as scrutiny of financial records and forged documents continues.
Jaganmohan Rao’s legal counsel, Kiran, told reporters the arrest violated Supreme Court norms as no prior notice was issued. A bail plea is expected to be filed on Friday, July 11.
