HYDERABAD: BRS Working President K. T. Rama Rao (KTR) on Thursday asserted that the ₹10,000 crore land scam involving University of Hyderabad (HCU) properties had been validated by a Supreme Court-appointed empowered committee. He demanded a comprehensive investigation by a specialised agency and called on the Reserve Bank of India to also probe the Revanth Reddy-led government’s alleged financial misconduct.
Speaking to the media at Telangana Bhavan in Hyderabad, KTR said that he had flagged the scam a week ago and now the panel’s report had confirmed financial irregularities and deliberate violations in the handling of HCU lands. He stated that the Kanch Gachibowli lands were rightfully under the university’s control, as acknowledged by the committee, which also recommended Supreme Court intervention.
KTR lashed out at Chief Minister Revanth Reddy, saying a leader with integrity would have resigned after such damning revelations, but Revanth continued in office without remorse. He thanked student groups and activists who fought for HCU lands and extended gratitude to the Empowered Committee for its findings.
KTR criticised Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s silence, questioning why no investigation had been ordered despite Modi previously accusing the state government of sending bulldozers into central university lands. “If Modi truly has clean intentions, he must direct an inquiry into this scam,” KTR said, warning that Telangana’s people would see through any inaction.
He also pointed out that while minor issues were being criminalised using AI-generated videos, major scams were being overlooked. He announced that the BRS would file complaints with central investigation agencies over financial loot and environmental violations in the HCU land matter, and would consider approaching the Supreme Court over the role of certain officials and police acting in favour of the Congress government.
KTR further slammed the Telangana State Industrial Infrastructure Corporation (TSIIC) for disregarding official government orders, as noted in the panel’s report, which also flagged that even water bodies had been mortgaged. “No one but a madman like Revanth Reddy would mortgage a lake,” he remarked.
Questioning why BJP leaders were trying to shield the Congress government, KTR said that if the BJP had any sincerity, it should support a Supreme Court-led judicial inquiry into the Kanch Gachibowli land dealings.
Reacting to Dubbaka MLA Kotha Prabhakar Reddy’s recent statement that Revanth Reddy should complete five years in power so people would learn a lasting lesson, KTR said the MLA spoke the unvarnished truth. “People themselves are asking us to topple this corrupt government, but if Revanth continues for five years, voters will fear giving the Congress another chance for the next 20 years,” he said.
On the Formula-E case, KTR maintained that he had always taken policy decisions responsibly and never scapegoated officials. “This is what real politics looks like. We don’t shift blame to officers when things go wrong,” he concluded.
Central Empowered Committee recommended – “In view of violations and potential financial impropriety a probe should be initiated by special agencies in the directions of Supreme Court”
