Hyderabad: State Health Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha ordered immediate repairs to a damaged irrigation canal in Sangareddy district after personally inspecting the breach site on Sunday. The minister conducted the inspection alongside District Collector P. Praveena following reports of structural damage to the Rajanarsingh main canal.
The canal breach occurred in Isojupet village within Palkal mandal, which falls under the larger Singur irrigation project. Consequently, the minister directed irrigation department officials to commence restoration work without delay to prevent further disruption to agricultural activities in the region.
During his field visit, Minister Rajanarasimha emphasised the need for swift action to minimize inconvenience to local farmers who depend on the canal system for crop irrigation. Furthermore, he stressed that repair operations must proceed efficiently to restore normal water supply to affected agricultural areas.
Canal breach repair prioritised amid heavy rainfall warnings
Given the ongoing heavy monsoon rains across the region, Minister Damodar Rajanarasimha issued specific instructions to both irrigation and revenue department officials to maintain heightened vigilance. Additionally, he directed them to monitor other vulnerable sections of the irrigation network to prevent similar incidents.
The Singur project serves as a critical water source for agricultural communities in multiple mandals across Sangareddy district. Therefore, officials have been tasked with conducting regular assessments of canal infrastructure to identify potential weak points before they develop into major breaches.
