HYDERABAD: Telangana Health Minister Damodar Raja Narasimha convened a review meeting with the managements, deans, and principals of private medical colleges in the state to discuss the quality of medical education, compliance with National Medical Commission (NMC) regulations, faculty appointments, student attendance, and fee-related concerns.
The Minister emphasised that doctors educated in Telangana enjoy a global reputation, which he attributed to the high standards of education maintained in the state. He issued a stern warning that any complaints regarding the appointment of fake faculty members or collection of excess fees would lead to strict action. He added that a decline in quality in private medical colleges could endanger public health, which the government would not tolerate under any circumstances.
The meeting also addressed complaints about delays in disbursing student scholarships at some institutions. The Health Minister directed the college authorities to ensure timely payment of scholarships so that students’ academic progress is not hindered. He further instructed that teaching hospitals affiliated with the colleges must strictly adhere to the Clinical Establishments Act.
He warned that if any student was pressured to pay excess fees or advance payments, the concerned college would face severe consequences. The Minister also assured that the concerns raised by colleges regarding NMC regulations would be taken up with the relevant authorities to find appropriate solutions.
The meeting was attended by Parigi MLA Ram Mohan Reddy, Health Secretary Christina Z. Changthu, Kaloji Health University Vice Chancellor Nand Kumar Reddy, DME Narender Kumar, and other senior officials.
