HYDERABAD: A major encounter took place once again at the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border, resulting in the reported deaths of 28 Maoists in an exchange of fire with security forces.
A combing operation, led by central paramilitary forces, has been ongoing for five days at Karregutta near the Telangana-Chhattisgarh border. Targeting top Maoist leaders, Hidma and Deva, the operation has seen the deployment of over 20,000 personnel from three states. Amid this extensive operation, a fierce gunfight broke out on Saturday morning at Karregutta between the Maoists and the security forces. According to reports, 28 Maoists were killed during the encounter. However, official confirmation of the casualties is still awaited.
It is reported that around 1,000 Maoists are currently present in the Karregutta area, prompting security forces to intensify their search operations. Restrictions have been imposed, instructing local residents not to leave their homes. Security forces are relentlessly scouring the agency areas, utilising drones for surveillance and search operations around the clock. This situation has left the local tribal communities in a state of fear and anxiety.
Meanwhile, arms, food, and water are being supplied to the security forces using eight helicopters to support the ongoing operation.
