Hyderabad: Telangana issued a heavy rain alert for 24 districts on Saturday, warning of intense downpours starting Sunday evening and lasting through the night.
Weather authorities flagged central and eastern Telangana as high-risk zones. Districts under red alert include Bhadradri, Mulugu, Mahabubabad, Bhupalpally, Hanamkonda, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jagtial, Sircilla, Siddipet, Medak, Kamareddy, Nizamabad, Nirmal, and Sangareddy. Officials urged residents to take precautions, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas.
Moderate to heavy rain is also expected in Adilabad, Asifabad, Janagaon, Vikarabad, Yadadri, Nalgonda, Suryapet, Ranga Reddy, and Mahabubnagar districts. Local administrations are on standby, and emergency teams have been advised to remain alert.
Hyderabad will likely witness light to moderate showers, with expected rainfall between 30 and 60 millimetres. Weather models suggest scattered spells throughout the day, followed by heavier rain overnight. Commuters in the city have been advised to plan ahead, as traffic disruptions and waterlogging may occur.
This spell follows a recent trend of sporadic monsoon activity across Telangana, which has left reservoirs low and agricultural planning disrupted in many regions. The sudden surge in rainfall comes as a relief, but officials have cautioned against complacency, especially in areas with poor drainage.
The Telangana Weatherman continues to monitor conditions closely and may issue further advisories depending on storm development. Residents can follow updates through official channels and are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during peak rainfall hours.
