Hyderabad: The India Meteorological Department has issued orange and yellow alerts across Telangana as heavy to extremely heavy rainfall is expected on Tuesday and Wednesday under the influence of a surface circulation and monsoon trough in the Bay of Bengal.

Orange alerts have been declared for Adilabad, Kumuram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Nizamabad, Jagtial, Rajanna Sircilla, Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Jangaon, Siddipet, and Kamareddy districts on Tuesday. These regions are forecast to receive extremely heavy rain, while the rest of the state is expected to experience heavy rainfall.

On Wednesday, very heavy rain is likely in Mancherial, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, and Bhadradri Kothagudem, with heavy showers predicted for most other districts.

Widespread rain lashed the state on Monday, with the highest rainfall recorded in Mulkacherla of Adavidevulapalli mandal in Nalgonda district at 10.7 cm. Other significant figures included 10 cm in Kangti (Sangareddy), 8.8 cm in Manglavaripet (Warangal), 8.6 cm in Gurrampode (Nalgonda), 7.6 cm in Medapalle (Nallabelli), 7.4 cm in Bhupatipet (Mahabubabad), and 6.5 cm in Rajendranagar (Rangareddy).

The Hyderabad weather office expects moderate to very heavy rainfall across Telangana for the next five days. A low-pressure area is also likely to form over north Bay of Bengal by July 24, potentially intensifying rainfall further.

Alongside thunder and lightning, winds may gust up to 30–40 kmph across districts. Yellow alerts have been issued for multiple locations to caution residents.

Over the past 24 hours, moderate rainfall was recorded in Nalgonda, Mahbubnagar, Nagarkurnool, and Narayanpet districts. The highest measurement was 10.08 cm in Mulkalapalli (Nalgonda), followed by 8.83 cm in Manglavaripet (Warangal), 7.6 cm in Medapalle, 6.93 cm in Nallabelli, and 7.05 cm in Bhupatipet (Mahabubabad).

Authorities have been directed to alert residents in districts facing risk from excessive rain.
