Hyderabad: A second spell of heavy rain hit Hyderabad on Friday evening, hours after morning showers had already disrupted daily life across the city. Several key areas were flooded, leading to severe traffic delays.
Stretches in Begum Bazar, Koti, Nampally, Himayatnagar, Khairatabad, Tank Bund, and Secunderabad were completely waterlogged. As rainwater mixed with flood discharge from city reservoirs, major traffic routes became impassable.
Heavy rain floods Hyderabad roads, forces major diversions
Police closed the Musarambagh bridge after water from Osman Sagar began flowing over it. They installed barricades to stop all vehicles from using the route. Traffic coming from Dilsukhnagar was diverted via the New Golnaka bridge.
Floodgates were lifted at both Himayat Sagar and Osman Sagar reservoirs, which were filled to capacity following sustained rainfall. As a result, floodwater from Osman Sagar flowed directly across the Musarambagh bridge.
Meanwhile, the service road near the Outer Ring Road was also closed after floodwater reached the carriageway. Officials urged commuters to avoid affected areas and use alternative routes to reach their destinations.
