Hyderabad: Heavy rain lashed Hyderabad from 3:30 p.m. Monday, flooding major roads and crippling traffic across key junctions. The downpour, which continued without pause for over two hours, brought traffic to a standstill across multiple stretches.
Congestion spanned kilometres in areas where even brief showers typically choke the city’s flow. Roads turned into water channels, stranding motorists in places including Uppal, Ramanthapur, Nacharam, Tarnaka, Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Somajiguda, Lakdi-ka-pul, Kukatpally, Yusufguda, Ameerpet, Maitrivanam, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Alwal, Hakimpet, and Malkajgiri.
Overflowing drains worsened the situation, prompting the GHMC and Hydra Monsoon Emergency Teams to initiate response measures. Authorities advised residents and commuters to avoid non-essential travel.
Emergency crews were deployed near Raj Bhavan to drain rainwater accumulating in the area. In Banjara Hills, a tree collapse on a car led to local rescue teams being dispatched.
