Hyderabad: Heavy rain accompanied by strong winds lashed multiple parts of the city on Saturday evening, uprooting trees and severely disrupting electricity supply. The downpour caused inconvenience to residents, already facing traffic congestion, as waterlogging on key roads further slowed movement.
The gusts brought down trees in several areas, snapping power lines and cutting electricity in affected neighbourhoods. The impacted localities included Hayathnagar, Abdullapurmet, Vanasthalipuram, LB Nagar, Chandrayangutta, Balapur and BN Reddy Nagar, all of which recorded intense rainfall.
Heavy rain in Hyderabad prompts weather warning
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) warned that Vikarabad, Ranga Reddy, Sangareddy, Nizamabad, Gadwal, Wanaparthy, Narayanpet and Kamareddy districts could experience further heavy rain in the next two hours. Officials urged residents to remain cautious, advising them to step outdoors only in emergencies.
The rain resumed later in the evening in several parts of Hyderabad, including LB Nagar, Hayathnagar and Abdullapurmet. IMD officials forecast the possibility of thunderstorms in the coming hours, particularly in LB Nagar, Uppal and areas surrounding Osmania University, where residents were also advised to remain alert.
