Hyderabad: Hyderabad experienced heavy rainfall, drenched its northern and western outskirts late Sunday, with Kukatpally recording the highest overnight showers. While core city areas saw lighter rain, the surrounding districts of Medchal-Malkajgiri and Rangareddy experienced sustained downpours.
According to the Telangana Development Planning Society (TSDPS), Hyder Nagar and HMT Hills in Kukatpally each received 46.3 mm of rain. Vinayak Nagar in Malkajgiri followed with 45 mm. In total, rainfall across these districts ranged from 20 mm to 46 mm between Sunday night and early Monday morning.
Hyderabad’s heavy rainfall also impacted Rajiv Gruhakalpa and Gajularamaram (43.8 mm), Kapra and the University of Hyderabad in Serilingampally (42.5 mm each), and Kushaiguda’s old ward office in Cherlapally (42.3 mm). Chandanagar’s JPN Nagar community hall area recorded 41 mm, while Shamshiguda in Kukatpally saw 40.5 mm.
Officials from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD Hyderabad) linked the rainfall to a low-pressure system in the region. The system kept skies overcast and led to persistent damp conditions across the metropolitan area.
Civic authorities urged residents in low-lying colonies like Gajularamaram and Chintal to remain alert. In the past, these areas have experienced severe waterlogging during even moderate showers (GHMC flood maps).
