Hyderabad: Heavy rains lashed parts of the erstwhile Adilabad district on Saturday, disrupting life and cutting road links to several villages. Streams and rivulets overflowed in multiple mandals, leaving residents in remote areas isolated.
From midnight until morning, Talamadugu, Ichoda, Indervelli, Jainath, Gudihathnoor, Bazarhathnoor, Boath, Utnoor, Sirikonda and Neradigonda received moderate to heavy rainfall. Vankathumma vagu in Utnoor and Chickmanvagu in Sirikonda overflowed, blocking access routes. Villagers struggled to reach mandal headquarters for essential supplies and medical care. They urged authorities to restore connectivity and begin relief operations.
Heavy inflows into irrigation projects
In Mancherial district, Bheemini, Kannepalli, Naspur, Hajipur, Bellampalli, Mandamarri, Bheemaram, Dandepalli, Luxettipet and Thandur recorded rainfall between 15 mm and 125 mm. Kannepalli led with 125 mm, followed by Bheemini at 94 mm, Nennal at 88 mm and Mancherial mandal with 65 mm.
Rainwater entered homes in Satya Sai Nagar of Luxettipet, forcing families to stay awake through the night. A colony in Mandamarri was inundated. Several households in LIC Colony, Tirumalagiri Colony and Ramnagar in Mancherial town also reported flooding.
Irrigation projects including Kaddam, Swarna, Gaddennavagu, Kumram Bheem, Matthadivagu, Sathnala, Gollavagu and Rallavagu received heavy inflows. At the Kaddam Narayana Reddy project, inflows touched 86,994 cusecs, while outflows reached 1.56 lakh cusecs. Sixteen of the 18 gates were lifted. Officials said the water level had risen to 693 feet against the full reservoir level of 700 feet.
Farmers across Adilabad, Mancherial and nearby districts reported damage to cotton, red gram, soya and green gram crops. They appealed for crop loss surveys and immediate compensation. Meanwhile, seasonal waterfalls in the region swelled and drew visitors despite the heavy weather.
