Hyderabad: Moderate to heavy rains battered several parts of Mancherial and Kumram Bheem Asifabad districts on Tuesday night, flooding low-lying areas, damaging crops, and disrupting daily life.
Data from the Telangana Development Planning Society showed Kannepalli mandal in Mancherial district recorded 233 mm of rainfall, while Bheemini mandal received 226 mm. Hajipur, Kasipet, Bellampalli and Kotapalli mandals each logged over 100 mm.
Heavy rains isolate villages, damage crops
Flooded streams in Bheemini, Kannepalli and Kotapalli submerged standing paddy, cotton and soya crops. A railway under-bridge in Thandur mandal was inundated, halting traffic, while Boyapalli village saw water enter houses. In Bellampalli, floodwaters submerged Ramnagar, prompting residents to relocate to safer areas.
In Kumram Bheem Asifabad district, Rebbena mandal recorded 220 mm of rainfall, followed by Tiryani with 143 mm. Swollen streams in hilly terrain cut off Manikyapur and Romplelli villages, as well as Gundala in Tiryani mandal. In Asifabad town, Sandeepnagar residents faced waterlogging inside homes.
District Collector Venkatesh Dothre declared a holiday for schools and Anganwadi centres, urged residents to remain indoors, and said rescue and rehabilitation efforts were in progress. A control room was set up to coordinate assistance for those affected.
