Hyderabad: Telangana is soaked, and it’s not letting up anytime soon. With the monsoon in full swing and a low-pressure system churning overhead, districts across the state are seeing rain come down in sheets. The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has slapped orange and yellow alerts on several regions as showers are expected to intensify mid-week.
Janagaon got hit hardest on Tuesday. Gudur recorded a whopping 136.5 mm of rainfall. Close behind were Gundala in Bhadradri Kothagudem (121.5 mm), Mangapet in Mulugu (119 mm), Peddakodapgal in Kamareddy (118 mm), Arvapalli in Suryapet (116.3 mm), and Kashimpet in Karimnagar (115.8 mm).
The Hyderabad Meteorological Centre says the wet spell isn’t over yet. More downpours are expected over the next 48 hours. On Wednesday, Jagtial, Rajanna-Sircilla, Siddipet, and Janagaon could see the heaviest of the rain, prompting an orange alert.
Several other districts Karimnagar, Peddapalli, Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Mulugu, Bhadradri-Kothagudem, Mahabubabad, Warangal, Hanamkonda, Yadadri-Bhuvanagiri, Ranga Reddy, Hyderabad, Medchal-Malkajgiri, Vikarabad, and Sangareddy are also on yellow alert.
Thursday’s forecast looks just as grim, with Jayashankar Bhupalpally, Khammam, Bhadradri Kothagudem, and Mulugu again flagged for heavy rain under an orange alert. Nalgonda, Suryapet, Mahabubabad, and Warangal are under yellow.
Officials are urging people in low-lying areas to stay put and keep a close eye on updates. With more rain on the horizon, local administrations say it’s better to play it safe than be caught off guard.
