The Telangana High Court has reserved its judgment on a petition filed by BRS leaders KCR and Harish Rao, challenging notices issued in the Medigadda Barrage case, which alleges financial irregularities.
HYDERABAD: The Telangana High Court has reserved its judgment on a petition filed by Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leaders K. Chandrashekar Rao (KCR) and T. Harish Rao, challenging the notices issued by the Principal Sessions Judge of Bhupalpally district in the Medigadda Barrage case. The case involves allegations of financial irregularities in the construction of the Medigadda Barrage, a key component of the Kaleshwaram Lift Irrigation Project.
The original complaint was lodged by Rajalingamurthy, a social activist, who alleged that KCR, Harish Rao, and several officials misappropriated public funds, resulting in structural issues in the barrage. In July 2024, the Bhupalpally district court issued notices to the accused based on these allegations. In response, KCR and Harish Rao approached the High Court, seeking to quash the notices, arguing that the lower court lacked jurisdiction over the matter.
In a significant turn of events, Rajalingamurthy was recently murdered, raising concerns about the continuation of the case. During the High Court hearing, the public prosecutor maintained that, despite the complainant’s death, the case should proceed. Citing legal precedents from the Supreme Court and various High Courts, the prosecution argued that the matter remains valid for judicial scrutiny.
After hearing arguments from both sides, Justice K. Lakshman reserved the judgment, stating that a decision would be announced after thorough deliberation. The case remains under judicial review, with further developments expected following the court’s ruling.
