Hyderabad: Authorities on Friday opened four gates of the Himayat Sagar reservoir under Bandlaguda Jagir municipality in Gandipet mandal after heavy inflows from upstream areas. Around 1,400 cusecs of water was released into the Musi river.
On Thursday night, one gate was opened by local MLA Prakash Goud. As inflows continued to rise, three more gates were lifted on Friday morning.
Alert for Musi catchment areas
The full tank level (FTL) of Himayat Sagar is 1,763.50 feet, while officials were maintaining the water level at 1,763.10 feet. With the gates open, an alert was issued to localities along the Musi river. Authorities warned that if two more gates were lifted, residents in low-lying Musi catchment areas would be evacuated as a precautionary measure.
