Hyderabad: Telangana Housing Board’s seizure operation at MP Garden function hall in Mehdipatnam turned violent on Friday, leaving Assistant Estate Officer R. Jagadishwar Rao dead. The hall, under default for ₹1.22 crore in rent arrears, had been marked for takeover by the Board.
Officials arriving at the site reportedly faced obstruction from private bouncers and local men deployed by the tenant. A confrontation followed. During the altercation, Jagadishwar Rao collapsed and died. Preliminary accounts suggest he may have succumbed during the scuffle, though the cause of death is under investigation.
Housing Board sources said legal proceedings had already been initiated due to long-standing rent non-payment. The seizure was carried out as part of recovery action. A police case has been registered. Investigators are examining the involvement of those who resisted the seizure and allegedly incited the clash.
Senior officials condemned the violence and demanded strict action.
