HYDERABAD: A tragic incident unfolded in the Husnabad constituency of Siddipet district, where a man took his own life after being allegedly cheated by a middleman who promised him a job in Dubai. The victim, Boda Srinivas Reddy (40), was a daily wage agricultural labourer from Turkavanikunta village under the Potharam (J) gram panchayat of Akkannapet mandal.
Srinivas Reddy is survived by his wife Sabitha and two daughters, Harshini and Nandini. According to reports, a man from Tangallapalli in neighbouring Rajanna Sircilla district took ₹4 lakh from Srinivas, promising to arrange a job for him in Dubai. However, the accused kept stalling the process with excuses, which reportedly led to deep emotional distress for the victim.
Already burdened by existing debts amounting to ₹8 lakh, the mounting interest and the fresh scam-related loss pushed Srinivas into despair. On Monday at midnight, while his family slept outdoors, he locked himself inside the house, wrote a suicide note, and hanged himself from a ceiling fan using a saree.
When Sabitha noticed his absence, she tried to enter the house but found the door locked. With the help of neighbours, the door was forced open, and Srinivas was found hanging, barely alive. He was rushed to the Husnabad Government Hospital, where doctors declared him dead on arrival.
In his suicide note, Srinivas pleaded with the Sub-Inspector and Circle Inspector not to spare the middleman who had defrauded him. He also made a heartfelt request to his in-laws to take care of his daughters.
The incident has cast a pall of gloom across Akkannapet mandal, with residents shocked by the death of a man who was known for his friendly and sociable nature. Local police have launched an investigation based on the suicide note.
