Hyderabad: Eight youths rode on a single motorcycle on the busy Gaganpahad–Aramgarh highway, performing stunts and disturbing other road users. Rajendranagar police registered a case after videos of their acts went viral on social media.
Last month, three auto-rickshaws engaged in dangerous single-wheel balancing and racing on Chandrayangutta–Chandanbagh road around midnight, putting other motorists at risk. Viral footage prompted police to file cases against seven individuals.
A similar incident took place on Prakashnagar Road in Begumpet, where seven bikers carried out loud and high-speed stunts late at night, alarming nearby traffic. Acting on social media clips, police arrested all seven.
Last monsoon, two youths attempting to shoot stunts on a KTM bike for social media reels near Peda Amberpet on the National Highway lost control, leading to a fatal crash, killing one and severely injuring the other.
Just two days ago, a netizen tagged a picture of four riders on a single bike in Himayatnagar to the Hyderabad traffic police’s X account.
Police said bike racing and rash driving incidents are rising daily across Hyderabad, especially during monsoon. Officers noted that parents share responsibility for controlling youth recklessness. Most of those involved are college students, with locals complaining police usually act only after stunts go viral rather than preventing them beforehand.
Clips showing four to eight people on one bike or performing stunts are frequently filmed by bystanders, then posted on Instagram, Facebook or YouTube. Police trace them only after these videos catch attention online, sometimes being directly tagged to commissionerate handles. Officials then book cases under BNS, Motor Vehicles Act, and City Police Act.
Authorities admitted they struggle to monitor every area, particularly at night on stretches like Inner Ring Road, service roads of Outer Ring Road, Banjara Hills, Jubilee Hills, Madhapur, Rajendranagar, Boyinapalli, and Rayadurgam. Locals demanded tighter patrols and suggested drone surveillance to curb the danger before more lives are lost.
