Hyderabad: Police seized a large cannabis shipment near the outskirts of Hyderabad on Wednesday, arresting three men who were allegedly transporting 400 kilograms of the drug to Rajasthan.
The Eagle team intercepted the consignment near Tatipalli and Chaligal in Peddamberpet. They found the cannabis hidden beneath coconut husks in a DCM truck and a car. The suspects were moving the load from Visakhapatnam to Rajasthan. Police took them into custody and seized both vehicles for further inspection.
Investigators identified one of the accused as Vikram Vishnoy, also known as Vikas, a driver from Jodhpur. According to police, he is part of a wider smuggling group. An agent named Devilal reportedly introduced him to truck owner Ramlal and cannabis supplier Ayyub Khan. The gang offered Vikram ₹5 lakh per trip to smuggle the drug from Malkangiri, Odisha, to Rajasthan.
Police link seizure to wider cannabis network
The Rachakonda SOT team said this operation followed earlier surveillance of smuggling routes through Hyderabad. Smugglers had been using coconut husks to hide the cannabis and block its smell. Police recovered mobile phones and packing material, which they believe will help identify more people in the network.
Following the arrests, officers prepared to present the suspects in court and request their remand for further questioning. Forensic teams collected samples for lab tests. Police also registered a case under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act.
Authorities plan to expand the investigation to find others involved in the supply chain. They stressed the need for constant checks on routes linking Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, and Telangana. Police also urged the public to report any suspicious activity and promised strict action against drug smuggling groups.
