Hyderabad: The Telangana State Road Transport Corporation (TGSRTC) will increase Hyderabad city bus fares from Monday, October 6. The revision applies to all categories of city services operating within the Greater Hyderabad limits.
Under the new fares, passengers on city ordinary, metro express, and electric buses — both ordinary and express — will pay ₹5 more for the first three stages. From the fourth stage onward, the fare will rise by ₹10.
For metro deluxe and electric metro AC buses, the first stage will cost ₹5 more, while each subsequent stage will cost an additional ₹10.
Rising infrastructure costs drive fare revision
TGSRTC said the hike was necessary to meet rising operational and infrastructure expenses. Greater Hyderabad currently has 25 depots operating 265 electric buses, with 275 more scheduled to join the fleet this year.
To support this expansion, the Corporation has set up high-tension (HT) power connections and charging stations in six depots. Each facility cost around ₹8 crore to build.
Electric bus expansion plan till 2027
By 2027, TGSRTC plans to add 2,800 more electric buses. The project will require HT connections at 19 depots, along with 10 new depots and 10 additional charging stations. The total infrastructure investment is estimated at ₹392 crore.
Officials said the Corporation cannot absorb such high costs under current financial conditions. Therefore, it sought an increase in city bus fares to share the burden. The state government approved the proposal on September 23, and TGSRTC confirmed the change in its Saturday statement.
