Hyderabad: Daily CNG consumption in Hyderabad has reached 2.1 lakh kilograms, nearly doubling from the previous year’s figures, Union Minister for Petroleum and Natural Gas Hardeep Singh Puri informed the Lok Sabha on Thursday.
Responding to a question from Chevella BJP MP Konda Vishweshwar Reddy, the minister said the city’s gas distribution infrastructure has been entrusted to nine agencies by the Petroleum and Natural Gas Regulatory Board (PNGRB). Bhagyam Nagar Gas Limited holds the operational mandate for the Hyderabad region.
As of now, the agency operates 83 CNG stations in the city, collectively serving between 55,000 and 60,000 vehicles per day. Daily sales have risen from 1.12 lakh kg in FY 2023–24 to the current 2.1 lakh kg by June 2025, marking a growth of nearly 100 per cent.
Bhagya Nagar Gas Ltd has also initiated efforts to identify new locations for future CNG station development, in view of the increasing demand, Puri stated.
