Hyderabad CP warns of zero tolerance on drunken driving, road offences

Hyderabad: City Police Commissioner V.C. Sajjanar has announced a strict ‘zero tolerance’ policy for traffic violations such as drunken driving, underage driving, wrong-route travel, and reckless driving. He warned that violators will face firm legal action without exception.

Sajjanar reviews traffic department, urges improved enforcement

The announcement came during a traffic department review session at the TGICCC Auditorium in Banjara Hills. Addressing over 450 traffic personnel, Sajjanar described officers as the “face of Hyderabad Police” and praised their dedication to duty. While noting steady improvements, he called for stronger enforcement and timely reforms.

As part of the action plan, the Commissioner instructed the formation of special teams to carry out a scientific study of U-turn points across the city. He also pushed for expanded use of the Real-Time Traffic Monitoring System to ease congestion.

Inter-agency traffic coordination to start Nov 27

To boost coordination, Sajjanar revealed that monthly Convergence Meetings involving all key departments will begin on November 27. These sessions will address citywide traffic issues in a collaborative manner.

Emphasizing accountability, he said officers delivering strong performance will receive recognition. However, he made it clear that corruption on roads would not be tolerated under any circumstances. He directed traffic officials to promptly visit accident locations and implement the upcoming Traffic Command Control Center Protocol.

Senior officials including Joint CP Traffic D. Joel Davis, DCPs R. Venkateswarlu and S. Srinivas, along with ACPs, Inspectors, and other field staff, attended the meeting.
