Hyderabad: An 80-year-old man from Tolichowki, Hyderabad lost ₹19.09 lakh in an online share trading scam promoted through a fake news article.
The incident occurred on July 18, when the victim came across a misleading financial interview featuring a man named “Saadu Sadguru” on Google News. The content, appearing as a legitimate media interview, claimed high returns through share trading.
After clicking a link embedded in the article, the victim received a call from one “Mr. Saim,” posing as an accounts manager from IFEX CAPITAL. He promised large profits through stock market investments. Convinced by the presentation and fake credentials from SEBI and the Financial Services Commission (FSC), the victim transferred ₹19.09 lakh in total.
Later, the fraudster demanded an additional ₹10 lakh to release supposed profits of $100,000 (₹84 lakh). When the victim declined, he was told to forget the money he had already invested. Realising the fraud, the victim alerted cybercrime authorities.
The Cyber Crime Police of Hyderabad has issued a public alert urging citizens to exercise caution:
