Hyderabad flood-hit areas to get new drainage works, says Hydraa Commissioner

Hyderabad flood-hit areas

Hyderabad: Hydraa Commissioner A.V. Ranganath visited several flood-hit Hyderabad colonies on Friday and ordered immediate repairs to address persistent waterlogging. He inspected Sriramnagar Colony in Baglingampally, Gagan Mahal in Domalguda, and parts of Ashoknagar areas severely affected by ongoing rains.

In Sriramnagar, residents said stormwater had flooded around 450 homes. They blamed a broken pipeline that once diverted water into the Hussainsagar nala. Responding to their concerns, Ranganath instructed officials to dig a new open drain through the same vacant government land. This, he said, would serve as a permanent solution.

Moreover, the Commissioner reviewed desilting work and checked the use of high-capacity motors to pump out standing water. He confirmed the land was government-owned and warned against any obstruction to the flood-mitigation project. Those claiming ownership were advised to seek compensation through TDR provisions.

Relief measures in Domalguda and Ashoknagar

In Domalguda’s Gagan Mahal area, residents told Ranganath that silt buildup in the Hussainsagar nala was blocking water flow. He climbed waterlogged buildings to inspect the site and observed illegal structures along the nala. He assured locals that desilting would begin as soon as the water receded. Furthermore, all encroachments inside the drain would be removed.

In Ashoknagar, residents complained that rainwater from Indira Park flows into their area, worsening due to nearby encroachments. They also reported the collapse of a retaining wall near a temple. Ranganath ordered its immediate reconstruction. In addition, he instructed officials to widen the connecting nala to prevent future flooding.

Hydra Additional Director Varla Papayya, DFVOs Yajnanarayana and Goutham, Musheerabad Circle Deputy Commissioner Ramanujula Reddy, and Irrigation Deputy Engineer Srinivas joined the inspection tour.
