Hyderabad: The Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) issued a fresh flood warning on Monday after heavy inflows into Himayatsagar. The board plans to raise water releases to 6,000 cusecs, warning residents along the Musi River to stay alert.
This was the fourth flood warning this week, following alerts on August 14, 15, and 16. Officials said teams are monitoring reservoir levels and public safety around the clock.
At Himayatsagar, the water level stood at 1,762.15 feet just below the full tank level of 1,763.50 feet. Inflows reached 1,900 cusecs, while one gate was lifted by a foot to release 339 cusecs.
Meanwhile, inflows into Hussain Sagar exceeded its full tank level of 513.41 meters. On Monday, the lake reached 513.61 meters. Water is entering through Banjara, Picket, Kukatpally, and Balkapur drains at a rate of 1,873 cusecs. To manage this, GHMC released 1,438 cusecs through sluice gates.
Officials warned that added outflow from Hussain Sagar would strain the city’s drainage system. They began precautionary work in flood-prone areas and urged residents in low-lying zones to remain cautious.
