Hyderabad: Continuous heavy rains since last night have left the city waterlogged, disrupting normal life and traffic. Low-lying colonies are submerged, and the Musi River is flowing in spate due to persistent rainfall. Near Chinchalpet in Vikarabad district, floodwaters are swelling dangerously. Authorities have strictly warned residents not to cross overflowing canals and streams under any circumstances.
In response to the rising water levels in the Musi, the gates of Himayat Sagar reservoir were lifted, prompting the Hyderabad Traffic Police to close the one-way road on the under-construction Moosarambagh Bridge. Commuters are advised to use alternative routes, while residents in Musi catchment areas have been urged to remain on high alert.
Traffic police, weather warnings in force
A low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal has triggered widespread heavy rains across the state, with Hyderabad bearing the brunt. The IMD has issued a heavy rain warning for the city today. Hyderabad and Cyberabad Traffic Police have urged citizens to step out only if necessary.
Cyberabad Police advised employees to reach home before 3 PM to avoid traffic snarls and possible flood-related disruptions. Those on evening shifts have been encouraged to opt for work-from-home arrangements. Officials stressed that such measures will safeguard commuters and reduce evening traffic congestion.
Weather advisory:
Avoid travelling through Musi-adjacent areas.
Low-lying colonies may face further inundation.
Use alternate routes as several stretches remain closed.
