Hyderabad: A major mishap was narrowly averted in Attapur on Sunday when a Ganesh idol being transported for installation touched live electric wires at Rambagh. Sparks flew from the overhead line, triggering panic among devotees.
Witnesses said youths from Panduranga Nagar and Sai Nagar colonies were shifting the idol on a tractor when the incident occurred. Several riders jumped off the vehicle to save themselves. Locals accused electricity officials of ignoring repeated warnings about low-hanging wires and failing to cut the supply in time.

Ganesh pandal organisers blamed the accident on officials who refused to shut down power, saying they lacked higher-level orders. Residents also alleged that staff at the site did nothing, even as sparks erupted.
Locals stressed that the mishap could have turned fatal without the quick response of devotees. They demanded immediate repair of dangling wires to prevent further Hyderabad Ganesh idol electric shock incidents during the festive season.
