Hyderabad: Intense rainfall lashed Hyderabad on Thursday, leaving major thoroughfares flooded and paralyzing traffic across large swathes of the city.
Roads across key neighbourhoods including Miyapur, Kukatpally, Pragathi Nagar, Moosapet, Ameerpet, Begumpet, Jubilee Hills, Panjagutta, Khairatabad, Nampally, Koti, Chaderghat, Malakpet, Dilsukhnagar, LB Nagar, Vanasthalipuram, Hayathnagar, and Abdullapurmet were inundated following a persistent downpour.
In Secunderabad and surrounding localities Alwal, Tirumalagiri, Boinpally, Maredpally, Tarnaka, Osmania University campus, Habsiguda, Uppal, Nacharam, Malkajgiri, Musheerabad, RTC X Roads, Ashok Nagar, Gandhinagar, Kavadiguda, Bholakpur, Chikkadpally, and Himayatnagar rainwater overflowed onto roads, slowing vehicular movement and stranding commuters.
Southern and western parts of the city were similarly affected. Areas like Manikonda, Rajendranagar, Attapur, Gandipet, Narsingi, and Ibrahimpatnam reported extensive waterlogging. With poor drainage in multiple zones, motorists struggled through submerged stretches, leading to extended travel delays and stalled vehicles.
Traffic congestion peaked along the stretch from Uppal Stadium to Habsiguda, where floodwaters rendered roads virtually impassable. Officials reported open manholes in Yousufguda and Krishna Nagar, posing further hazards. In Bhavani Nagar, Nacharam, knee-deep water was reported.
The India Meteorological Department warned that heavy rain is likely to persist through the evening within Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) limits. Citizens have been advised to remain alert and avoid unnecessary travel.
