High alert in Hyderabad amid India–Pakistan tensions; surveillance stepped up across key areas

Hyderabad: Hyderabad City Police have increased security across the city in view of rising tension between India and Pakistan. The watch at strategic points – defense bases, government buildings, and localities renowned for earlier communal flares – has been strengthened.

Greater police deployment is evident in places such as Saidabad, Malakpet, some areas of the Old City, and the Cantonment, where patrolling has been strengthened as a precautionary measure. Police are monitoring specific individuals previously linked to communal disturbances, with efforts underway to prevent any flare-ups.

Police Commissioner C.V. Anand has been holding continuous reviews, reportedly directing officials to ensure that CCTV infrastructure across the city is fully functional. In areas deemed sensitive, police have been asked to engage with local residents for cooperation and early warning. Authorities have also identified individuals who’ve made pro-Pakistan remarks in the past and are keeping them under close observation.

The Commissioner has been conducting briefings with zonal officers on both public safety and the possibility of an emergency situation should war-like conditions emerge. Instructions have been given to stay ahead of unrest and to ensure citizens can protect themselves if required.

Police units across the city have been specifically tasked with safeguarding religious places. Senior officers have been ordered to conduct late-night checks at major places of worship, particularly those with prior histories of tensions.

Officials have been told to remove any suspicious objects found near religious sites without delay and ensure no incident occurs that could inflame tensions. Any damage or disturbance must be fixed immediately. Field-level officers have been asked to stay in constant touch with the Command Control Centre. Any significant intel, they’ve been told, should move up the chain – from constable to commissioner – without delay.

One senior officer said surveillance is active on all individuals who instigated, participated in, or enabled past religious riots. “With public cooperation, we’re confident we can weather any situation,” he said.
