Hyderabad: A sudden cloudburst between 6:30 PM and 7:30 PM on Thursday brought Hyderabad’s IT corridor to a near standstill. Key roads across Madhapur, Gachibowli, and Kondapur went under water, trapping thousands of commuters and choking traffic for hours.
Flooding hit major intersections from Biodiversity Junction to IKEA Circle. Vehicles sat motionless deep into the night. Traffic came to a halt on the stretch from Shilparamam toward Kukatpally and Jubilee Hills via Kondapur and Hitec City. Near Cyber Towers, water rose waist-high between Neerus Junction and Inorbit Mall, blocking movement entirely.
Roads connecting AIG Hospital and IKEA to Kondapur, Hafeezpet, and Kothaguda were submerged. Even hours later, emergency teams found it difficult to ease the gridlock at Biodiversity Junction, where congestion peaked.
Rain lashes entire city, drains overflow across key zones
Elsewhere, intense rainfall lashed Miyapur, Himayatnagar, Lakdikapul, and Nampally. Motorists on Panjagutta, SR Nagar, and Ameerpet routes faced prolonged traffic jams. In Banjara Hills and Filmnagar, overflowing drains turned city streets into flood channels.
In Devarkonda Basti near Banjara Hills, floodwaters swept away vegetable carts and parked vehicles. Waterlogging affected nearly every approach road to the IT corridor. Residents and tech workers described the scene as “nightmarish.”
Despite weather alerts, the city’s drainage network failed to handle the volume of water. GHMC crews worked to remove blockages, while police attempted to manage the traffic chaos across multiple choke points—with limited success.
