Hyderabad: A fertility centre in Secunderabad has been booked after a couple accused it of using sperm from an unknown donor instead of the husband’s in a test-tube baby procedure. The case came to light when a DNA test revealed no genetic match between the child and the husband.
The case began when a woman, undergoing fertility treatment, approached the Srushti Test Tube Baby Centre in Secunderabad with a clear request: she wanted to conceive using her husband’s sperm.
The treatment appeared successful, the couple went on to have a child. But years later, when the child was diagnosed with cancer, the family decided to pursue DNA testing. The results confirmed their worst fears: the baby was not biologically related to the husband.
The couple filed a complaint at Gopalapuram police station. Based on the complaint, police conducted a raid on July 26, along with health and revenue officials. Authorities reviewed the centre’s licences and records, uncovering evidence of similar irregularities in the past.
Investigators are now verifying how many patients may have received treatment under similar circumstances. An official probe is ongoing.
