Hyderabad: Starting May 17, Hyderabad Metro fares are set to jump, with the minimum ticket price rising from ₹10 to ₹12 and the maximum now pegged at ₹75 a ₹15 spike. The revised structure, announced by L&T Metro Rail, follows recommendations from a Fare Fixation Committee under the Railway Act.
As the new fares surfaced, many commuters voiced frustration. Regular passengers hit out at the hike, calling it steep and poorly timed. Some described it as a burden on daily earners already grappling with rising costs.
The updated slab is as follows:
Up to 2 km: ₹12
2–4 km: ₹18
4–6 km: ₹30
6–9 km: ₹40
9–12 km: ₹50
12–15 km: ₹55
15–18 km: ₹60
18–21 km: ₹66
21–24 km: ₹70
Beyond 24 km: ₹75
The last fare revision was over two years ago. According to L\&T Metro Rail, this change balances affordability with financial sustainability. But for those relying on the metro for daily commutes, the increase came without warning and sparked sharp criticism.
The Fare Fixation Committee, chaired by a former High Court judge, submitted its recommendation in January. It was accepted by the Government of India and greenlit for rollout this month.
