Hyderabad: Hyderabad Metro Rail created a green channel late Tuesday night to transport a donated heart and lungs to two separate hospitals, enabling timely transplants that saved two lives.
The green channel was operated between 9 pm and 10 pm. A heart harvested at LB Nagar Kamineni Hospital was transported to Yashoda Hospital, Secunderabad, near Parade Grounds. The 11-kilometre distance was covered in just 16 minutes.

In a parallel operation, lungs were transported from LB Nagar Kamineni Hospital to Yashoda Hospital, Madhapur. The 27-kilometre journey, covering 21 metro stations, was completed in 43 minutes.
L&T Metro officials said the operation was executed despite rain and heavy night traffic, with the organs reaching their destinations within 45 minutes. They credited the successful transfer to close coordination between Hyderabad Metro Rail, medical experts and hospital authorities.
