HYDERABAD: Hyderabad in-charge minister Ponnam Prabhakar has directed Greater HYDERABAD: Municipal Corporation (GHMC) officials to take all necessary precautions to prevent inconvenience to the public following sudden strong winds and heavy rain in the city.
The minister instructed officials across various GHMC zones to remain on alert due to the ongoing rainfall. Following reports of trees falling in several parts of the city due to strong winds, emergency and Disaster Response Force (DRF) teams have been tasked with promptly clearing the debris to avoid traffic disruption.
He noted that rainwater had accumulated on roads in several areas, including Charminar, Bahadurpura, Nampally, Amberpet, Khairatabad, LB Nagar, Kukatpally, and Secunderabad. GHMC engineering teams have been instructed to drain the stagnant water from affected locations immediately.
Citing the Meteorological Department’s forecast of further heavy rainfall over the next three hours, the minister urged residents to exercise caution. He added that jetting machines from the HYDERABAD: Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWSSB) are being deployed to clear drainage blockages.
Officials from the police, GHMC, Water Board, and electricity departments have been instructed to coordinate efforts to prevent public inconvenience in rain-affected areas.
