HYDERABAD: Voting for the Member of Legislative Council (MLC) elections under the Local Authorities’ quota began at 8 AM today in Hyderabad district.
By noon, voter turnout stood at 77.68 percent.
AIMIM President and Hyderabad MP, Barrister Asaduddin Owaisi, exercised his franchise as an ex-officio member. Other AIMIM legislators and corporators also cast their votes.
Two polling booths were set up at the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) headquarters. A total of 31 ex-officio members and corporators of the GHMC are eligible to vote in this election.
To prevent any untoward incident, Section 144 has been imposed around the GHMC office. Officials clarified that only first-preference votes would be considered valid. A candidate must secure more than 50 percent of the total valid votes to be declared the winner.
Vote counting will begin at 8 AM on 25 April.
The main contest is between BJP candidate Gautam Rao and AIMIM’s Mirza Riyaz ul Hasan Effandi.
